ARAG offers the top performing legal insurance designed around a nationwide network of attorneys. The plan, Ultimate Advisor® offers help with legal insurance that pays your attorney fees—with no co-pays—for most covered legal matters when you work with a Network Attorney.

The legal insurance plan offers affordable and reliable legal counsel for everyday life matters like a dispute with a contractor, buying or selling a home or the need for estate planning.

How can this help me?

Have you ever wished you had an attorney in the family?

  • Someone who could send a letter to an auto dealership and get them to fix your car right.
  • Someone who could call the credit card company so they’d erase a disputed charge on your account.
  • Someone who could get in touch with a contractor who hadn’t finished your home repair properly and convince them to fix the project correctly.

Now you can get something even better with your legal insurance benefit. This benefit puts a team of attorneys on your side … ready whenever you need help on legal matters or financial issues. That means you can consult with an attorney for a Will. Have a lawyer help with a speeding ticket. Even get a legal opinion on what to do about a neighbor’s fence that’s sitting on your property—and it’s all covered under your legal insurance benefit. Sounds too good to be true? It’s not.

Attorney fees are 100% paid in full for covered services when you use our nationwide network of attorneys. *ARAG legal insurance is designed to provide coverage for personal legal matters, not matters related to an individual’s business, employment or investment interests.

  • Are there any exclusions?

The plan covers most personal legal services. The following matters are excluded from coverage:

    • Legal services in class actions, post judgments, punitive damages, malpractice or appeals.
    • Legal services deemed by us to be frivolous or lacking merit or, in actions where you are the plaintiff and the amount we pay for your legal services exceeds the amount in dispute, or in our reasonable belief you are not actively and reasonably pursuing resolution in your case.
    • Matters against us or an insured against the interests of the named insured under the same policy.
    • Legal services arising out of a business interest, investment interests, employment matters, your role as an officer or director of an organization and patents or copyrights.
    • Any legal matter not specifically listed on your policy.
    • Legal services for the benefit of a person other than you.

Pre-existing matters: this is an insurance policy that covers various personal legal matters that occur after you have purchased the policy. The earliest date for any of the following events is used to determine whether a legal matter is covered:

    • Written notice of a legal dispute is sent or filed by you or received by you
    • A ticket or citation is issued
    • An attorney is hired

If any of these events occur before you purchase a policy, the matter is considered pre-existing, but you still may be eligible to use the Reduced Fee Benefit for your legal matter and receive at least 25% off the network attorney’s normal hourly rate.  you still have the benefit available to you for that particular matter of at least 25 percent off network attorney fees.

  • What attorney can I use?

You have access to more than 14,000 network attorneys across the U.S. who:

    • Are individually selected to ensure you receive professional assistance.
    • Average more than 20 years of experience practicing law.
    • Can meet a wide range of legal needs.
    • Are re-credentialed annually to ensure they meet ARAG’s standards.
    • Must fulfill specific criteria to maintain their status in the network.

After confirming coverage, ARAG will provide you with a list of network attorneys who practice in the area of law that relates to your specific legal matter. You will be able to review each attorney’s profile and decide for yourself which network attorney is the best fit for your situation.

You also have the flexibility to choose an attorney who is not within the ARAG attorney network to handle your covered matter. In this situation, you would be billed directly by the attorney and then after paying your deductible you can be reimbursed for attorney fees that are paid on an indemnity basis up to the maximum amounts listed in your policy.

To find local network attorneys, please contact our Customer Care Center at 800-819-6010 or you can log in to ARAGlegal.com and access the Attorney Finder to search for a network attorney by area of law and location. If you have any difficulty locating a network attorney, please call our Customer Care Center to learn about our network attorney guarantee.

Members can also download the ARAG Legal app to make it easier to select and connect with attorneys.

  • How are payments handled with a non-network attorney?

As a member, you have the choice to see a network or non-network attorney; however, most members use a network attorney for their legal matter. If you choose to work with a non-network attorney, you will be billed directly by the attorney and then after paying your deductible you can be reimbursed for attorney fees paid on an indemnity basis up to the maximum amounts listed in your policy.
  • Can I use this plan for small business-related or employment-related legal matters?

No. ARAG legal insurance is designed to provide coverage for personal legal matters, not matters related to an individual’s business, employment or investment interests.
